i'm here on neocities for much the same reason as everyone else is & probably you too! social media has continually evolved to restrict creativity, decentivize content that cant be monetized by media platforms, & systematically mine user data to sell to corporations & government agencies. but the internet & online communication is obviously not going anywhere, & has substantial positive uses as well: it can provide community for disabled people who have little to no irl support, such as movements like #CripplePunk; it creates opportunities to make or maintain friendships from a distance for agoraphobes and the socially anxious; often during mainstream media blackouts, the internet is the only place that users can upload or share events as they occur, sometimes live, such as during the #Ferguson riots on Twitter.
